Student Mental Health Policy
During the first two years of the curriculum, students are taught primarily on the UNC campus with potential early clinical experiences in and around Greeley. Students have access to an embedded mental health counselor within the College of Osteopathic Medicine as well as services through the University Counseling Center. The Counseling Center operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Students needing after-hours crisis support (5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays) may access care by either:
- calling the Counseling Center at 970-351-2496 and selecting option 2 to be connected to the Colorado Crisis Line, or
- calling 988.
Beginning in 2028, when students enter clinical rotations, those rotating within the state of Colorado will have access to remote counseling services provided through UNC COM and the University. For students assigned to core or selective rotations requiring temporary residence outside the state, the Associate Dean of Clinical Education and GME, in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs and Admissions and the UNC Counseling Center, will identify appropriate counseling resources using the student’s insurance provider. Information about these resources will be provided prior to the start of core and required rotations.
