Since 1916, the University has been fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Various academic programs currently have special accreditation by the following:

UNC holds membership to the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, American Council on Education, American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Teacher Education Council of State Colleges and Universities, the Council of Graduate Schools in the United States, Project 30 Alliance, the Western Association of Graduate Schools, the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, Colorado Thirty Group and other educational organizations.
