Nursing Education Graduate Certificate Program (Non-Degree)

Certificate Requirements — 9-12 Credits

The Certificate in Nursing Education is designed to provide bachelor's, master's and doctorate-prepared nurses with advanced knowledge in nursing education for academic or practice settings. The courses are all or mostly online. Selections are tailored to meet student needs and additional choices may be available (confer with advisor). Students must complete each course with a grade of "B" or better.

Applicants must have a BSN and have/maintain an unencumbered RN license. Application materials are available on the UNC School of Nursing home page at http://www.unco.edu/nhs/nursing. If not currently enrolled in a nursing program at UNC, students must be admitted by the Graduate School and by the School of Nursing before enrolling in courses. Completed applications are submitted electronically and will be considered on an open schedule.

The Certificate in Nursing Education consists of a minimum of 9 credit hours of graduate level course work for the post-master's or doctoral student and 12 credit hours of graduate level course work for the post-bachelor's student. The recommended course work includes 1 course in teaching strategies, 1 course in teaching/learning theory, and 1 course in curriculum or evaluation. The post-bachelor's student will select one additional course from one of these areas or an elective. A minimum of 6 credit hours must be in nursing for the post-master’s or doctoral student, and a minimum of 9 credits must be in nursing for the post-bachelor's student.
