The Office of Equity and Inclusion (Carter 3005) coordinates the functions of the following departments to assist in providing quality support services to promote the retention and academic success of all students (undergraduate, transfer, non-degree and graduate). Campus Recreation, Department of
Provides state-of-the-art facilities designed to serve the recreational and fitness needs of UNC students. Center for Womens and Gender Equity (CWGE) / Stryker Institute for Leadership Development
(Scott- Willcoxon Hall) The CWGE honors gender as a central identity and engages critical women’s and gender issues, while challenging systems of inequity and advocating for change at UNC. Over the past five years, the CWGE has made intentional efforts to incorporate an intersectional approach to their feminist work.
As they strive to educate around and advocate for gender equity, they do so while acknowledging that in addition to gender, the multiple different identities people carry related to race, disability, socioeconomic status, citizenship status and more, also impact the gender experience and pursuit of gender justice. The Stryker Institute for Leadership Development offers scholarships for women from underrepresented groups. Stryker scholars learn about identity and social justice, then apply that lens to leadership and mentorship in the classroom and in their communities. In Scott-Willcoxon Hall, trained staff are able to connect with students and offer support, as well as directing them to the best resources related to women’s and gender issues. César Chávez Cultural Center (CCCC)
Seeks to enhance academic success and persistence, provides leadership opportunities, and offers referrals, support and co-curricular activities that emphasize the LatinX culture through cultural programming and hands on experiences. Dining Services
(Tobey-Kendel Hall, room 120) is a full-service dining operation for the campus community. Dining Services operates four meal plan dining locations: Holmes Dining Hall, Tobey-Kendel Dining Room, Bears Bistro, and the University Center Food Court. Students can use their Dining Dollars at Bears Bistro, Einstein Bros® Bagels, Munchy Mart, Subway®, and Sushi with Gusto® in the University Center, multiple Coffee Corner locations across campus, and the Pie Café located in Campus Commons. Dining Services also provides catering for special occasions, concessions for sporting events and campus activities, and vending machines throughout campus.
A variety of meal plans are available for students living on- or off-campus. Gender and Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC)
Provides education, advocacy and support for all identities across the gender, sexuality, and romantic spectrums. Our center offers study spaces with computer access, a library of Queer book and DVD titles available for rent, in-house counseling services, an all-gender lactation room and restrooms, and two lounge areas. Beyond the ways in which the community can utilize our center and online resources, the GSRC also has many programs throughout the year dedicated to our mission of educating, advocating, and supporting the UNC community. Some of these programs include our identity or interest-based Affinity Groups, the GSRC mentoring program, UNC’s Coming Out Week, Speak OUT panels, and educational trainings. Housing and Residential Education
(Tobey-Kendel 199) provides on-campus housing, services and programs to assist students in their transition to UNC. Marcus Garvey Cultural Center (MGCC)
Supports students’ academic success, social engagement, and cultural awareness with particular focus on those who identify across the African (Black/African/African American/Bi- and Multi-racial and ethnic) diaspora. The MGCC provides enriching experiences for the UNC and local communities through diverse programming designed to promote education, success, and community engagement. Veterans Services
(Roudebush Cottage) proudly serves our military affiliated community by assisting in the transition process and providing a stand-alone space with a strong inclusive community.
