Asian Studies

Minor Requirements — 22 Credits

This minor is designed to provide students with a broad-based interdisciplinary understanding of Asian culture through a coordinated program of studying language, history, philosophy, art, geography, or political science. The program is administered by a faculty coordinator in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. All Asian Studies Minors are required to see an advisor to work out a program of study that will meet their specific needs and interests. A minimum of 6 credits in the minor must be at the 300 or 400 level.

Students who demonstrate first-year-language competency in either Chinese or Japanese may bypass the 102 course and take 15 credits of electives rather than 12.

At least 6 credits must be at the 300 level or above.

Must be taken from two different prefixes.

NOTES: Independent Study projects and special courses must be approved by the minor advisor. These projects may be taken in any of the following departments: Anthropology, Art, Business, Economics, English, World Languages and Cultures, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Mind/Honors.

Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in those courses that count toward the minor.

In accordance with University Policies, coursework earned more than 10 years prior to the date of matriculation to UNC may not be used to satisfy any major or minor requirements.  Any exception to this policy is at the discretion of the academic program.
