Who are we
The Department of Housing & Residential Education provides housing for 3,000+ undergraduate and graduate students in traditional residence halls, university-owned houses and apartments. The university-owned houses and apartment are available to returning UNC or incoming transfer students only.
At the core of what we do
We offer services and programs that assist students in their transition to UNC, support their academic success and facilitate the development of life-long friendships. Students are encouraged to participate in activities, programs and leadership opportunities provided by faculty, staff and campus partners. Employment opportunities are also available to students with work study within the residence halls.
Residence Hall facilities
Residence halls are located on both Central and West campuses. The Central Campus residence halls are located within a beautiful tree-lined area and include Belford, Bond, Brown, Decker, Dickeson, Gordon, Hansen-Willis, Lujάn, Sabin, Snyder, and Wiebking halls. These halls house between 28 and 280 students. West Campus residence halls are located west of the University Center and house between 330 and 542 students per hall. These buildings include Harrison, Lawrenson, Turner, North and South halls.
Living on campus is part of the learning experience
Many students enjoy the opportunity to live in housing options around community interests. UNC offers a variety of options for those with various interests such as First Generation, Global Village, Outdoor Pursuits, Leadership, Pet Friendly, Gender, Sexual & Romantic Identities, Transfer, Women's Community and Gender Inclusive. We also have academic-based interest communities such as Biology, Criminal Justice, Cumbres, Elementary Education, Honors, Monfort College of Business, Performing & Visual Arts, and Pre-Nursing. These floors offer programs, activities and experiences centered around the respective theme.
Services
Residence hall front desk staff is available 24 hours in designated residence hall areas. In addition, professional and student staffs live in the halls and are available for assistance and support. Centrally located dining facilities are located on both sides of campus and provide air-conditioned dining as well as the convenience of “Gourmet To Go” and “Bear On The Run” take-out meals. Laundry facilities, study lounges, game rooms and television lobbies are also available for student use.
Accommodations
Residence halls and apartments (returning and transfer students) are available for students with disabilities and include numerous accommodations and helpful features. Housing & Residential Education works with the Disability Resource Center to assist students with individual needs. Please contact the Disability Resource Center as early as possible to ensure timely planning and preparation of a room or apartment.
Apartment Life at Arlington Park Apartments (available to returning and transfer students)
Arlington Park Apartments are located 1 block east of West Campus and provide housing to students. Arlington Park Apartments offer 3 different housing options:
- 2 bedroom/1 bathroom lofts,
- 4 bedroom/2 bathroom apartments or
- 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartments.
Each apartment contains a full kitchen with stove, refrigerator with ice maker, garbage disposal, dishwasher and microwave. In the 4 bedroom & 2 bedroom/2 bath units, there is a private washer & dryer within each unit. The 2 bedroom/1 bedroom apartments have free washer & dryer access located within the building. Each bedroom is private with individual locks. All apartments are furnished with a bed, dresser, desk with a desk chair, couch, love seat, a coffee table, end table, and breakfast bar with bar stools. Additional amenities include a fitness center, game room with large screen TV and free WIFI in the courtyards and community room. There is an additional monthly utility charge based on the apartment layout.
University-owned Houses (available to returning and transfer students)
We offer a variety of houses, close to campus, for returning and graduate students. The houses offer double and single rooms, standard twin beds, dining areas, living rooms, full kitchens, and more. The houses offer more independent living but with all the benefits of university supported housing.
