The UNC School of Music is a vibrant community of performers, composers, educators, and music industry professionals who believe in the power of music to transform the world. Ours is a longstanding history of excellence in creativity and scholarship, one which we strive to continue in our day-to-day pursuits and rely on to guide our future. Today’s UNC School of Music is comprised of about 375 students and 70 faculty members engaged in undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs in performance, music education, jazz studies, music business, technology, Latinx music, culture & expression, composition, theory, and history & literature.

Each year, we present 40+ concerts in our state-of-the-art Campus Commons Performance Hall and 100+ student and faculty recitals. We are proud to be the home of national and regional events including the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival, Colorado All-State Band, Western States Honors Orchestra, Open Space Festival of New Music, and Bailey Choral Festival. We are an active part of the Greeley Creative District, which has helped transform the heart of our city.

The School has earned a Grammy nomination, has won over 150 Down Beat Student Music Awards, and has sent students and faculty as ambassadors throughout the U.S. and around the world, including to Europe, China, the Caribbean, and South America. We are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

*Only for students cast in leading roles. For students cast in secondary and ensemble roles, elective credit would be required.

Admission Requirements: Those seeking to enroll in the B.A. Latinx Music, B.A. Culture & Expression, or B.A. Music Business and Recording Arts degrees need not do anything other than apply to the University. Prospective students seeking to enroll in one of the B.M., B.M.E., M.M., or D.A. programs are required to submit an audition form to the School of Music in addition to their application to the University or Graduate School. For these programs, an audition is required; for some graduate programs, an interview may be conducted in lieu of an audition. Minimum Proficiencies: Minimum proficiency in music fundamentals and ear training as assessed by a Music Theory Placement Exam to enter MUS 113/MUS 114 or MUS 181/MUS 182.

School Policies: In all MUS courses, a student must receive C- or better to fulfill degree requirements.

Any students receiving lower than a C- in a MUS prefix class for the second time in the same class will be placed on probation. A student who receives lower than a C- a third time in the same class will be removed from the major.

After students have fulfilled the requirements for applied lessons in their degree, additional applied lessons will be at the discretion of the studio teacher and Director.

Any student receiving a grade below a C- in applied lessons will be placed on probation. A second semester of a grade below a C- in applied lessons may result in removal from the major.

All students in applied lessons must enroll in a major ensemble, if required by their degree program.
