Immunization Regulations
To protect their own health and the health of patients, all UNC COM students are required to submit documentation verifying completion of the following immunizations and screening examinations:
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
Documentation of a completed vaccination series.
- Hepatitis B
Documentation of a completed vaccination series.
- Varicella (Chickenpox)
Documentation of a completed vaccination series or a positive laboratory titer prior to matriculation.
- Influenza
Annual vaccination with documentation submitted prior to October 1 each year.
- COVID-19
Annual vaccination with documentation submitted prior to October 1 each year.
- Tetanus
Documentation of Tdap or Td vaccination within the past 10 years. Students must update this vaccination within one month of the 10-year expiration date.
- Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
Documentation of TB screening by either a PPD or QuantiFERON test prior to matriculation and annually thereafter. If more than 12 months have elapsed since the most recent PPD, two-step testing is required with two PPD tests administered at least one week apart. A QuantiFERON test may be used in place of a two-step PPD.
Vaccine Exemptions
Students requesting an exemption from any required vaccination must submit a vaccination exemption form to the Department of Clinical Education. Students approved for exemptions should be aware that clinical training sites may enforce independent vaccination requirements. These may include compliance with accommodations (e.g., mask-wearing), restricted access to certain areas, or denial of placement for students who do not meet site-specific vaccination standards.
Per Colorado state law, if you file an exemption from a required immunization (e.g., MMR or meningitis) and there is an outbreak of that disease on campus, you may be subject to exclusion from campus and classes for at least 21 days after the last known case. In addition, tuition may not be refunded, and if you are living in student housing, you will be required to find alternate housing at your expense for the period of your quarantine.
UNC COM will make reasonable efforts to secure alternate clinical placements for students with exemptions. However, the College cannot guarantee that students who decline required vaccinations will be able to complete all clinical rotations necessary for graduation.
