Disability Resource Center (DRC)
Mission & Commitment
The Disability Resource Center (DRC) advances access, equity, and belonging at the University of Northern Colorado by partnering with students, faculty, staff, and campus leaders to remove barriers and foster inclusive learning environments.
At UNC, we recognize disability as a natural and valued dimension of human diversity. Access is not an add-on to the university experience. It is foundational to academic excellence and student success.
The DRC facilitates the interactive process through which reasonable academic, Housing, Dining, and programmatic accommodations are established. We work collaboratively with students and faculty to ensure that disability-related barriers are mitigated while preserving the essential learning objectives and academic integrity of UNC’s programs.
Our work extends beyond compliance. The DRC provides consultation, education, and campus-wide partnership to strengthen inclusive practices, promote inclusive design, and cultivate a culture where all students can fully participate and thrive.
Exploring Accommodations
Undergraduate students who experience disability-related barriers, whether due to a permanent disability, chronic condition, temporary health circumstance, pregnancy-related condition, psychological condition, or other medical concern, are encouraged to connect with the Disability Resource Center as early as possible.
Students do not need to navigate access concerns alone. The DRC team will:
- Engage in an individualized, interactive process
- Review relevant documentation when appropriate
- Explore reasonable accommodations based on functional impact
- Partner with faculty and campus offices to support implementation
- Connect students to additional resources that support well-being and academic persistence
Accommodations are designed to provide equitable access and do not alter essential course requirements or academic standards.
Commitment to Partnership
The University of Northern Colorado shares collective responsibility for ensuring equitable access. Faculty, staff, and campus partners collaborate with the DRC to implement approved accommodations and to advance inclusive educational practices.
Through this shared commitment, UNC affirms that disability inclusion is integral to student belonging, retention, and academic success.
