NURS 200 Women's Health Care

For students of any major. Examines women's health care concerns over the adult life span and the accompanying psychological, sociological and cultural implications. Includes an historical perspective. (LAC, gtP)

NURS 310 Foundations of Nursing Practice I

Prerequisite: Admission to Nursing Program. Majors only. An introduction to the profession of nursing: nursing history, theory, nursing process, communication, diversity, professionalism, legal and ethical issues, geriatrics, end of life and healthcare access.

NURS 312 Health Assessment

Prerequisite: Admission to Nursing Program. Majors only. Focuses on health assessment, including physical, mental, developmental and cultural appraisals of individuals and families.

NURS 314 Health Assessment Laboratory

Prerequisites: Admission to Nursing Program. Prerequisite or concurrent: NURS 312. Majors only. Application of health assessment, including physical, mental, developmental and cultural appraisals of individuals and families.

NURS 317 HIV/AIDS Issues in Health Care

Clinical level nursing student, RN, LPN or other health care professionals. Emphasizes psychosocial, ethical, legal and policy issues related to HIV/AIDS. Public health interventions will be explored and evaluated and the role of the health care professional. S/U graded.

NURS 318 Health Care Systems

For students of any major. Introduces the concepts of health and health care systems: explores philosophical, historical, political and professional relationships that exist in health care delivery.

NURS 320 Basic EKG Interpretation

Prerequisites: BIO 341, BIO 350. Clinical level nursing student or RN. An introduction to the basic concepts of EKG and arrhythmias recognition. S/U or letter graded.

NURS 321 Cinical Implications of Laboratory Data Analysis

Prerequisites: Admission to the Nursing Program or permission of instructor. Fundamental concepts of laboratory data analysis and microbiological principles as they relate to nursing practice.

NURS 324 Clinical Practice: Nursing Concepts and Care

Prerequisites: Admission to Nursing Program. Majors only. This course emphasizes planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care based on the nursing process. S/U graded. Participation Fee.

NURS 326 Pathophysiology

Prerequisite: A previous anatomy and physiology course(s). A systems approach to alteration and disruption of physiologic functions. Focus on differentiation of pathophysiologic findings and identification of major disease processes.

NURS 327 Pharmacology in Nursing Practice

Prerequisite: BIO 246. Study drug classifications, emphasizing pharmacodynamics in care of children and adults. Analyze pharmacological problems and plan nursing care to support treatment and avoid or alleviate iatrogenic problems of drug therapy.

NURS 328 Health Assessment for RNs

Prerequisite: Admission to the RN-BSN Program. Focuses on theory and application of health assessment, including physical, mental, developmental and cultural appraisals of individuals and families.

NURS 333 Transition to Baccalaureate Nursing

Prerequisite: Admission to the RN-BSN Program. Facilitates transition of registered nurses into the professional roles of a baccalaureate prepared nurse.

NURS 335 Foundations of Nursing Practice II

Majors only. Course continues students' development of foundational skills, attitudes, and beliefs needed for professional practice. Content includes patient education, research and evidence-based practice, communication, cultural sensitivity, and professional nursing role. Letter Graded.

NURS 374 Clinical Practice: Alterations in Adult Heath

Prerequisites: Successful completion Semester I of Nursing Program. Prerequisites or concurrent: NURS 375 & NURS 376. Majors only. This course focuses on the application of therapeutic interventions guided by the nursing process in the acute care of individuals across the adult life span and their families. S/U graded. Participation fee.

NURS 375 Alterations in Adult Health Theory I

Prerequisites: Successful completion Semester I of Nursing Program. Majors only. Emphasizes alterations in health of patients across the adult lifespan experiencing cancer, diabetes and disorders of the following systems: fluids and electrolytes, immunity, cardiopulmonary and gastrointestinal.

NURS 376 Alterations in Adult Health Theory II

Prerequisite or concurrent: NURS 375. Majors only. Emphasizes alterations in health of patients across the adult lifespan with disorders of the following systems: neurological, musculoskeletal, urinary/renal, hematological, endocrine, and integumentary.

NURS 404 Clinical Practice of Public Health Nursing: Population-Based Practice

Pre-requisite: Successful completion Semester III of Nursing Program. Concurrent: NURS 405. Majors only. Application of concepts, theories, knowledge, and practice from nursing and public health sciences within diverse population and environmental contexts. Apply public health nursing theory to public health nursing practice. S/U Graded. Participation fee.

NURS 405 Theory and Principles of Public Health Nursing: Population-Based Practice

Prerequisites: Successful completion Semester III of Nursing Program. Concurrent: NURS 404. Majors only. Emphasis on synthesis of concepts, theories, knowledge, and practice from nursing and public health sciences within diverse population and environmental contexts. Facilitates professional role development and clinical reasoning.

Offers undergraduate students an opportunity to increase nursing knowledge and skills. Repeatable, under different subtitles.

NURS 410 Foundations of Nursing Practice III

Prerequisites: Successful completion of NURS 310 and NURS 335. Majors only. Emphasizes issues in professional nursing relating to changing healthcare environment. Areas of emphasis are change, ethics, policy and politics, economics, and qualitative research as a component of evidence-based practice.

NURS 414 Clinical Practice: Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing

Prerequisites: Successful completion Semester III of Nursing Program. Concurrent: NURS 415. Majors only. Focuses on therapeutic nursing interventions applied to psychiatric/mental health nursing. Emphasis on nursing management of complex, acute and chronic psychiatric/mental health problems in community and/or inpatient settings. S/U graded. Participation fee.

NURS 415 Theory of Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing

Prerequisite: Successful completion Semester III of Nursing Program. Concurrent: NURS 414. Majors only. Nursing theory applied to psychiatric/mental health disorders. Focuses on promotion of quality and safe care and facilitation of optimal health for patients with acute and chronic illnesses.

NURS 420 Clinical Practice: Childbearing Families

Prerequisites: Successful completion Semester II of Nursing Program. Concurrent: NURS 425. Majors only. This course focuses on the application of therapeutic interventions guided by the nursing process and evidence-based standards in the care of childbearing families. S/U graded. Participation fee.

NURS 421 Clinical Practice: Pediatric Nursing

Prerequisites: Successful Completion Semester II of Nursing Program. Concurrent: NURS 426. Majors only. This course focuses on the application of therapeutic interventions guided by the nursing process and evidence-based standards in the care of pediatric patients and their families. S/U Graded. NURS 422 Directed Studies

Individualized investigation under the direct supervision of a faculty member. (Minimum of 37.5 clock hours required per credit hour.) Repeatable, maximum concurrent enrollment is two times.

NURS 425 Childbearing Families Theory

Prerequisites: Successful completion Semester II of Nursing Program. Concurrent: NURS 420. Majors only. Develops knowledge about childbearing processes, health promotion, disease prevention, alterations in health, and therapeutic interventions for women (gynecology), childbearing women, newborns and families in various settings.

NURS 426 Pediatric Nursing Theory

Prerequisites: Successful completion Semester II of Nursing Program. Concurrent: NURS 421. Majors only. Develops knowledge about alterations in health, health promotion, and disease prevention and explores therapeutic nursing interventions for the care of pediatric patients and their families in various healthcare settings.

NURS 435 Foundations of Nursing Practice IV

Prerequisite: Successful completion of NURS 410. Majors only. Emphasis is on the nurse as a leader/manager in society and the health care system with respect to current issues and trends.

NURS 453 Theory and Principles of Public Health Nursing: Population-Based Practice and Chronic Illness

Prerequisites: Admission to the RN-BSN Program. Concurrent: NURS 454. Synthesis of concepts, theories, knowledge, and practice from nursing and public health sciences within diverse population and environmental contexts. Facilitates professional role development. Explores chronic illness theories and concepts.

NURS 454 Clinical Practice of Public Health Nursing: Population-Based Practice and Chronic Illness

Prerequisite: Admission to the RN-BS program. Co-requisite: NURS 453. Apply concepts, theories, knowledge and practice from nursing and public health sciences within diverse populations and environmental contexts to practice. Apply the theory of chronicity in the community setting. S/U graded.

NURS 464 Clinical Practice for RNs: Professional Role Development

Prerequisite: Admission to the RN-BSN Program. A preceptored practicum that develops the leader/manager role of the baccalaureate nurse. S/U graded

NURS 465 Professional Nursing Roles

Prerequisites: Successful completion Semester IV of Nursing Program. Majors only. A combination of seminar, acute care clinical, and preceptored practicum that integrates the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for transition into the role of the generalist baccalaureate nurse. S/U graded. Participation fee.

NURS 471 Care of the Terminally Ill

Admission to Clinical Level III required. Discuss historical and contemporary attitudes toward death and dying. Examines clinical management techniques used in symptom control. Explore emotional and spiritual concerns. Analyze professional, organizational and societal factors. S/U graded.
