Center for Womens and Gender Equity (CWGE) / Stryker Institute for Leadership Development
(Scott- Willcoxon Hall) The CWGE honors gender as a central identity and engages critical women’s and gender issues, while challenging systems of inequity and advocating for change at UNC. Over the past five years, the CWGE has made intentional efforts to incorporate an intersectional approach to their feminist work.
As they strive to educate around and advocate for gender equity, they do so while acknowledging that in addition to gender, the multiple different identities people carry related to race, disability, socioeconomic status, citizenship status and more, also impact the gender experience and pursuit of gender justice. The Stryker Institute for Leadership Development offers scholarships for women from underrepresented groups. Stryker scholars learn about identity and social justice, then apply that lens to leadership and mentorship in the classroom and in their communities. In Scott-Willcoxon Hall, trained staff are able to connect with students and offer support, as well as directing them to the best resources related to women’s and gender issues. The CWGE also provides free pregnancy tests, condoms and feminine hygiene products. For more information, see www.unco.edu/center-womens-and-gender-equity/ or call (970) 351-1492.
