GEOL 100 Geology: Earth in Motion

(3 lecture, 2 laboratory) This course introduces the fundamental principles and processes that shape the Earth. Topics include the origin, composition, and classification of minerals and rocks; the development and evolution of landscapes; and the structure and dynamic history of the Earth. Students will explore how geological processes such as volcanism, erosion, plate tectonics, and sedimentation have influenced the planet over time. At least one field trip is required to provide hands-on experience investigating course topics.
