GEOL 102 Geology: Earth Through Time

This course explores Earth’s dynamic history and the evolution of its life, landscapes, and environments through geologic time. Students examine rocks and minerals, the principles of plate tectonics, sedimentation, fossilization, and geologic dating to interpret the rock and fossil record. Emphasis is placed on scientific inquiry, critical analysis of geologic evidence, and understanding how Earth’s systems have changed and interacted over billions of years. Through lecture and laboratory experiences, students develop skills in observation, reasoning, and synthesis that connect scientific processes to broader human and environmental contexts. Field trip required.
