Undergraduate Catalog 2024-2025

Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB)

A student may qualify for University credit or may be exempt from a specific course by demonstrating superior performance on the subject matter. Examinations are administered through the AP program of the Educational Testing Service. These are usually taken when the student is still in high school. Generally, an AP test score of 3, 4, or 5 will result in college credit being awarded. An IB test score of 4 or 5 may result in college credit being awarded.

Any AP or IB credit awarded may be used toward the 120-credit minimum requirement for college graduation. When you take the AP or IB examination(s), request that your scores be sent to the UNC’s Office of Admissions. UNC will then evaluate your test scores for credit and you can view Degree Works to see if it has been applied.

AP and IB credit are counted as non-residency transfer work.

Please consult the Office of the Registrar for specific AP and IB test score requirements at www.unco.edu/registrar/transfer/credit-exam.aspx. Equivalencies are effective for students admitted the most recent fall term and later.
