The program consists of three parts:
- Liberal Arts Core (LAC) Credits
- Required Major Credits
- University-Wide Credits
Program Description:
The program is committed to providing students with the highest possible quality education. All faculty have had both academic and practical experience in their subject areas and place a special emphasis on excellence in instruction and academic advising.
The program participates in the Recreation Management, subscribes to pertinent job bulletins and maintains detailed files on internship placements available throughout the world. The concept of learning through doing is further emphasized through numerous volunteer opportunities and the internship experience.
A student may earn a bachelor of science degree in Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality preparing the student to assume entry level leadership roles in tourism and recreation including municipal, youth, commercial, non-profit, outdoor and hospitality settings.
The Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality program is designed to provide the student with leadership and mid-management skills as well as concepts and theories applicable to a variety of employment settings.
Program Admission Requirements:
- Academic Good Standing
- Enrolled students requesting a change of major to Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality must possess an overall GPA of 2.3.
Program Requirements:
- Students complete a three credit Practicum experience and a 9-credit Internship experience.
- Current Advanced First Aid and CPR are prerequisites for these experiences as are specified credits of practical experience (50 clock credits for the practicum and 500 clock credits for the internship).
- A grade of “D” or “F” in the Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality major must be repeated.
- Students are approved for their practicum and their internship by faculty.
- Students must have completed all required courses in the major and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in major courses before beginning their internship.
