Students will analyze the role of these genres in identity formation, cultural resistance, and collective memory while considering their influence on contemporary struggles and movements. Through comparative analysis of historical and socio-political contexts and cultural criticism, students will engage with these musical traditions as dynamic forms of storytelling that challenge dominant narratives and amplify marginalized voices.
