EDTL 510 Reading Assessment and Instruction

Foundational study of reading assessment and instruction. Content is based on consensus science in effective reading instruction; policy provisions on scientific research principles; effective and ethical assessment and instruction in components of reading and writing—phonological/phoneme awareness, phonics and word identification, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension; language structures; assessment and instruction with dyslexia and other persistent reading difficulties.

EDTL 570 Effective Instruction in Science

This course is a study of the underlying models of science instruction and learning, curriculum, instructional methods, materials, science classroom safety, technology, and assessment for teaching the sciences in grades K-12. The course is a practical approach to developing a community of learners and thinkers, and evaluating and designing student-centered, inquiry-based learning activities, lessons, and curricular units.
