NURS 600 Nursing Theory

Admission to Master's Program required. Introduction to theoretical foundations for advanced nursing practice. Application of theory to clinical nursing practice and to nursing education. Emphasis on the development, application and critique of nursing models.

NURS 602 Management of Chronically Ill Populations I

Admission to master's program required. The impact of chronic illness across the lifespan is examined using a conceptual approach. Health promotion and illness management are emphasized through case management care delivery. 45 practicum hours required.

NURS 604 Management of Chronically Ill Populations II

Application of the nursing process and case management is examined in the development of health promotion and illness management strategies for the chronically ill adult and child. 45 practicum hours required.

NURS 605 Nursing Research

Advanced research concepts, methodology, and application of descriptive and inferential statistical components to data analysis. Critique selected research projects to determine relevance to nursing practice and contribution to theory development.

NURS 610 Health Assessment

(2 lecture, 3 practicum) Forty-five hours applied practicum arranged. Emphasis in health history taking, physical assessment and interviewing of individuals across the life span.

NURS 612 Advanced Pharmacology

Examine clinical pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics. Focus on selected drug groups and their safe and appropriate utilization in primary care practice.

NURS 614 Advanced Pathophysiology

Focus on pathophysiology, symptomology and etiology of commonly encountered acute and chronic clinical entities of children and adults.

NURS 615 Advanced Seminar in Transcultural Theories and Methods

Consent of Instructor. This course is a survey of theories and research methods used in transcultural health care and other disciplines.

NURS 618 Epidemiology in Advanced Nursing Practice

Majors only. Principles of epidemiology and understanding of biostatistics will be applied to population management of disease and intervention strategies.

Graduate students only. Individualized investigation under the direct supervision of a faculty member. (Minimum of 37.5 clock hours required per credit hour.) Repeatable, maximum concurrent enrollment is two times.

Practice teaching of nursing students, practicing nurses and/or clients. Analyze teaching strategies in academic and clinical settings.

NURS 638 Concepts in Advanced Evidence-Based Practice

(2 lecture, 3 practicum) Forty-five hours applied practicum arranged. Majors only. Emphasis is on the systematic evaluation and use of current best evidence to make decisions about clinical practice and health care systems.

(2 lecture, 6 practicum) Ninety hours applied practicum arranged. Majors only. Application of theoretical and research based developmental approaches to primary health care of families with particular emphasis on childhood/adolescence.

(2 lecture, 6 practicum) Ninety hours applied practicum arranged. Majors only. Application of theoretical and research based developmental approaches to primary health care of families with particular emphasis on women's health and adult episodic care.

(2 lecture, 6 practicum) Ninety hours applied practicum arranged. Majors only. Application of theoretical and research based developmental approaches to primary health care of families with particular emphasis on chronically ill and older adults and psychosocial adjustment disorders.

NURS 658 Applied Nursing Genomics

Prerequisite: NURS 614. Majors only. A genomics focus on concepts of prevention, screening, diagnostics, prognostics, selection of treatment, and monitoring of treatment effectiveness for individuals and aggregates within cultural and ethical care contexts.

Synthesis of concepts from nursing theory, research and education courses. Experience with curriculum development and analysis. 45 practicum hours required.

NURS 665 Seminar Topics in Chronic Illness

Majors only or permission of instructor. Engage in a course of study designed to investigate a special topic in chronic illness. Emphasis may be in a specific area or applicable across chronic illnesses/conditions.

NURS 668 Population Centered Health Care

(2 lecture, 3 practicum) Forty-five hours applied practicum arranged. Prerequisite: NURS 618. Required laboratory arranged. Majors only. Examines perspectives of population based health care across the life span from a community and global perspective.

NURS 678 Professional Practice and Healthcare Finance Seminar

(2 lecture, 3 practicum) Forty-five hours applied practicum arranged. Majors only. Comprehensive economic investigation of health planning, organization, personnel, payment systems and care cost effectiveness in health care delivery systems.

NURS 680 Advanced Practice Role Practicum

Majors only. Final clinical experience provides students an opportunity to practice advanced roles intervention in underserved and/or rural areas. S/U graded. Repeatable, maximum of 9 credits for a total of 405 practicum hours.

Applied practicum arranged. Majors only. Practicum in hospital, community, and primary care settings focusing on clinical prevention and population based health care. S/U graded. Repeatable, no limitations.

NURS 688 Advanced Nursing Leadership in Health Care Systems

(2 lecture, 3 practicum) Forty-five hours applied practicum arranged. Majors only. Analyzes the structure and organization of health care delivery systems including population-based, acute and ambulatory health care. The roles of the DNP in organizational and systems policy are addressed.

Majors only. Advanced practice role development in health maintenance and illness management is examined from several perspectives.

Majors only. Application of concepts from graduate research in a completed scholarly project, under direction of a graduate faculty member.

NURS 695 Advanced Academic Nursing Roles

The emphasis of this course is on direct responsibility/accountability for experience in the role of academic clinical and didactic teaching or administrative roles. 45 practicum hours required.

NURS 696 DNP Capstone Project

Terminal program course. All other courses should be taken before or concurrently. Majors only. Capstone project reflecting knowledge and synthesis of evidence based practice in advanced nursing health care. S/U graded. Repeatable, maximum of 6 credits.
