The program consists of three parts:

  1. Liberal Arts Curriculum (LAC) Credits
  2. Required Major Credits
  3. University-Wide Credits

Program Description:

The concentration in Human Resource Management is designed to develop skills in the management functions of strategic and human resource planning, compensation, recruitment, training and development, career planning, organizational effectiveness, and employee relations.

As the environment has noticeably changed for today’s organizations, both large and small, it has required a different role from the human resource department. Still encompassing all the traditional aspects of personnel and industrial relations, the role of the Human Resource (HR) Manager has vastly expanded to include many integral organizational functions not previously considered. Among these are joining the strategic planning team in the formulation of strategic business decisions and acting as both a catalyst and stabilizer to ensure the integrity and continuous development of the organization through its human resources.

Unique to our HR program is the emphasis placed on HR’s role in developing a strong and healthy company culture. By understanding the benefits of a healthy company culture, the more traditional HR roles of recruiting, training and development, performance management and compensation become easier to manage.

Human Resource Management Student Learning Outcomes:

Students who graduate from the Monfort College of Business with a concentration in Human Resource Management will be able to:

  1. Understand the role of Human Resources as a strategic business partner and change management resource within organizations.
  2. Acquire skills across the full range of talent management activities (hiring, staffing, career development, performance evaluation, and reward systems) that are required in today’s organizations.
  3. Develop skills in areas of potential conflict management, labor relations, and negotiations.
  4. Understand employment law, especially as it applies to ethics and social responsibility.
  5. Understand the important elements for creating safe and engaging workplaces.
